USMGA Code of Ethics

Safety must always be our first priority. The safety of our clients comes first, followed by the safety of the guide. In all decisions, the safety of the client and guide should first be considered before deciding upon a course of action. Guides must realize that they are ultimately responsible in all matters concerning safety.

The safety of other guided and recreational parties in the mountains is also our concern. Guides should always be ready to lend a helping hand or to give helpful advice has long as it doesn't adversely affect the safety of our clients' experience.

After safety priorities, guides should consider client comfort and client reward as the next priorities when deciding upon possible courses of action. All our personal goals and objectives must be put aside. We are working for our clients and must always do what is in their best interest.

Our goal as professional mountain guides is to give our clients the best possible day in the mountains.

Guides must always be aware of their own limitations and guide within their own capabilities. We recommend using the USMGA training and terrain guidelines to ensure this.

Endorsed guides should always conduct themselves in a professional manner with their clients, other guides, recreational climbers, and land managers.
