The USMGA is working hard to raise the standard of guiding in the US in order to provide the American climbing public the best climbing experience possible. The mission of the association is to raise the standard of American guiding, to support and promote guides and aspirant guides, and to improve the quality of the public's guided experience. If the quality of guiding in the US is something you are concerned about, either because you hire guides or because you are involved with the guiding profession, please consider helping the USMGA in this important mission.

The vast majority of the USMGA's budget is used to pursue its two main objectives: the promotion of professional guides and the guiding profession, and the pursuit of access. Budget items associated with promoting the profession include magazine advertisements, web hosting fees, and brochures. Most of the budget that will be spent in the pursuit of access will go towards legal fees. The USMGA has hired a legal firm to investigate various options for gaining access to public lands. Current budget items waiting for funding include a brochure to be distributed nationally and more legal work in the pursuit of access.
